A Plague - The Age of Escapism!!

Escapism, a plague upon humanity

Written by Mathew Naismith

Is spiritual #escapism of one being as much about the immaterial as the material within a material reality? Not at all, for one is only trying to bring balance into an imbalanced reality of materialism, however, if one only desires to be outside of the material because the material reality is too negative, yes, this is simply #spiritual escapism.

Spirituality isn't about escaping from a present reality; spirituality is about dealing with a present reality in a balanced way. As I wrote to someone with the following.

"Indeed Laurie, I often find myself in a quietened state, away from the norm. Is this escapism, or is this an observable energy source as Rachel has suggested? Then, is being in an immaterial state away from the material escapism?

It is simply a natural state, not a normal state at present, while experiencing a material state. I find it strange myself that experiencing an immaterial state in a materiel reality is not the norm, as it is a very natural state to be in, in my mind anyway.

Escapism is often in relation to judging one against the other, which is ludicrous as I am fairly sure Rachel will agree with. One is of the finite, the other of the infinite to begin with. One is of natural cycles, the other of the absence of cycles. If you have no starting or ending points, as of immaterial infinite existences, there are no cycles. In this case you can't judge one state positive and the other negative in comparison, however, if you can only perceive through the finite, the materiel, you can compare one against the other as many people mistakenly do. This to me is escapism, from a negative to a positive, or so perceived through the material mind.

It seems that people who, even in the absence of critical judgment of negatives and positives, go from a material state of mind to an immaterial state of mind are still escaping the material but their not. They are simply bringing balance into a state of mind that is obviously imbalanced. I also often observe my own participation in a material existence, thus simply observing an energy sources interaction in the material. The true observer can never compare one against the other, where the participator always compares one against the other. It is the participator in all of us that wishes to escape, where the observer sees nothing to escape from.

"It is not escaping from reality but experiencing a wider reality."

Indeed Rachel, experiencing a wider reality through observation of participation. Good one, you are certainly an observer it would seem. Observation of participation seems to becoming scarcer at present, as predicted."

While sitting within my own quietness just recently, an insight came to me. We are all from a state of consciousness that observes while in the absence of participation, it is just we can become primarily conditioned to material (physical) #participation, often at the expense of immaterial #observation within a material reality. Is this likened to that we are all of God (observer), but our human (participator) selves become primarily human in the absence of God!!

We often try to live by observation in many areas. People are trained to observe in science teachings, where people of spirituality are conditioned to observe through spiritual practices. No matter how we are trained or conditioned, the trick is to observe in the absence of bias or desires. When we observe through biases and/desires, we are not truly observing but participating in our observation. You can't truly observe your own participation if you are expressing biases or desires, as biases and desires represent participation therefore bias.

This is like what is often called pseudo science, a non-genuine exemplified science to a seemingly real science. However, often this so-called real science is of biases and/or desires, for example, the desire that there can never be anything beyond material reality. In truth, anything represented by bias, desire and escapism is a true example of what is non-genuine (pseudo). Yes, even scientists try to escape from the truth that there is a reality beyond materialism. Escapism isn't just to do with people into spirituality trying to escape from one reality to another more preferable (desirable) reality. How many people are trying to become materially wealthier and more controlling?

So many people today are trying to take more control thus escaping from being controlled more. Materially, the sun controls us as does the weather. When a beloved one dies, we are often emotionally controlled by this material loss. In all honestly, our whole environment controls us in some way. From an immaterial (spiritual) view point, we are not always going to feel good and in control in a material existence, to expect or demand that we do in a material reality is simply of escapism and unrealistic. In saying this, being of a true observer, even in part, can help us all cope a lot better while experiencing material realities. The true observer sees nothing to escape from, but to make the best of what is within the present.

You could call this age the age of escapism, when human consciousness is trying to escape from one thing or another. This is instead of dealing with what is and making the best of it for all concerned.

" AREN’T YOU SICK AND TIRED OF RUNNING?

As a species, we’re always running and hiding from everything, whether we know it or not. We run from love, forgiveness, mental ideas, other people, beliefs, inner fears … but above all else, we run from ourselves."

"Blaise Pascal once said, “All of humanity’s problems stem from man’s inability to sit quietly in a room.” Pay attention to this sentence; it is overflowing with wisdom. This simple, but unspeakably powerful observation, points to the heart of our problem: restlessness that comes from a fear of meeting ourselves."

This might be a terrible way to look at it for some people. Think of escapism, not just spiritual escapism, like a plague devouring or overcoming everything in its path, no one pervious or vulnerable to this plague is left untouched but like any plague, certain people are always left untouched.

As it is known today, what was known as the Black Death #plague was caused by lice and fleas on humans in numerous numbers. Would this not be equated to being aware to what is causing our present plague of escapism? If we are not aware of what is causing our present plague, how are we to address and arrest this very present and very real plague that is devouring us and the Earth?

The problem lays in what is causing this present plague, bias, desires and self-importance and indulgences. How many of us wish to give up these vices? Within this lays our biggest problem in arresting the very present and very real plague of the day. Like the Black Death plague, where you can get rid of the rats but humans themselves were carriers of what was causing the Black Death plague, arresting external vices when one is still internally of these vices isn't going to work either. In truth, more of us are becoming attached to external vices, so at present there is no sign of us arresting the present plague of the world as many of us simply don't want to know.

Like any plague, those who are not vulnerable to the present plague will carry us through as usual. The trick is to be honestly aware of our biases, desires, self-importance and self-indulgences at the cost of life itself to start with.

Yes, deplete the number of rats, external vices, at the same time eradicating the fleas and lice on ourselves, the internal fixations to external vices. Make no mistake; this is one of the biggest plagues in human history, where we use external vices to escape the plague caused by our fixations to external vices. You could say that we have a fixation to the plague itself, which to someone like me is very serious indeed.
